Classical Musicians

Russian Grammy Award winning orchestra to perform at London’s Cadogan Hall London 07.12.11 – World renowned violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet and the famous Moscow Soloists will bring their Grammy Award winning performance to London on 15th December at Cadogan Hall, with the support of Oleg Deripaska’s Volnoe Delo Foundation.

Yuri Bashmet has called the upcoming London concert “a very special, very personal event”. In 1992, as the new Russian Federation was being born, Mr Bashmet brought together the most talented alumni, students and graduate students of the Moscow Conservatory to form the ensemble. His goal was to ensure that Russia’s musical heritage carries on and flourishes in the new Russia. Mr Bashmet explained how he will approach this concert: “I strive to create music in the moment, at the exact time and place that it is being performed.” The Moscow Soloists will bring to life selections from the masterpiece works of J.S.Bach, G.Pergolesi, G. Rossini and F.Schubert performed by Russia’s rising stars, including Alena Baeva (violin), Xenia Bashmet (piano), Dinara Alieva (soprano), Alexander Buzlov (cello) and other young and talented musicians. Oleg Deripaska, President of En+ Group and Founder of the Volnoe Delo charitable foundation, is sponsoring the Moscow Soloists’ 20th anniversary concert at Cadogan Hall.

Explaining his support for the ensemble, Oleg Deripaska said: “I am proud that Russia is home to so many of classical music’s greatest composers and performers. It is very important that we continue the best traditions of performing schools in Russia. This is why world famous Russian music groups, including the Grammy-award winning Moscow Soloists directed by Yuri Bashmet, are supported by my Volnoe Delo Foundation and others.” More information about the performance is available from Cadogan Hall on 020 7730 4500 or online at http://www.cadoganhall.com/showpage.php?pid=1621 For more information about Yuri Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists, please contact: ·

Peter Kelley, Portland Communications on +44 (0) 207 842 0147 or peter.kelley@portland-communications.com or, · Kristen Robinson, Portland Communications on +44 (0) 207 842 0151 or kristen.robinson@portland-communications.com

About the Moscow Soloists The history of the ensemble is closely intertwined with its founder and leader Yuri Bashmet. A singularly talented musician, his performances celebrate the poetry of string and bow and have turned the alto into one of the most enticing instruments in modern performance. Yuri Bashmet is both the head and driving force behind international festivals in Russia, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy, founder of the Shostakovich International Foundation and annual award – and organiser of the only international alto competition in Russia. The Moscow Soloists is one of the Maestro Yuri Bashmet’s most cherished projects. Upon its creation in 1992, the ensemble promptly reaffirmed the Russian capital’s status as a centre of fine artistic performances.

The Moscow Soloists brought together the most talented alumni, students and graduate students of the Moscow Conservatory. The ensemble debuted on the legendary stage of the alma mater on May 19th, 1992. Today the orchestra is booked years in advance. The musicians have had a rich creative career: approximately 1500 concerts in over 60 countries across 5 continents, performances at the most prestigious concert halls. The ensemble, which commands a repertoire of over 250 pieces, encompassing everything from world-renowned masterpieces of classical music to the work of rarely performed composers both modern and old, will take it’s listeners on a voyage of discovery and introduce them to the finest compositions in the history of music.

Both graduates in music from Goldsmiths University of London, they have been playing together for over five years. During this time, they have provided instrumental acoustic guitar music for many occasions. These include corporate events for Toyota and the Rochester Bridge Trust, weddings both in the UK and abroad, and performing at the National Theatre and the Hay on Wye Literacy Festival.

This duos can provide over three hours of music ranging from jazz and folk, to popular songs and classical. Their set can be tailored to individual events and requests sent in advance can be learnt and incorporated into the set.

Client Comments
The Acoustica doesn’t only play music they make it. To listen to their weaving and threading of sounds is a joy. How such playing in unison happens without a score to bind them is a lovely mystery. Their playing is intelligent, playful and full of feeling. I could listen to them endlessly.
- Sir Arnold Wesker

I’ve come to admire the musicianship of these two young and incredibly talented musicians who have everything going for them. A fabulous guitar duo, they are reinventing the medium with alluring and wonderfully played versions of well known and popular tunes and instrumental pieces. They also play their own original compositions which transcend genre. Technically brilliant, the duo create virtuosic music which is both accessible and at the same time profound – they can draw both the average listener and the serious music fan.

With rhythmic power and life enhancing energy which is uplifting, this music has special guitar voicings, bright dancing articulation and interwoven parts using nylon string and steel string guitars. They create a hypnotic melodic and harmonica language and play fascinating, elliptical lines – their improvising is at the cutting edge of guitar playing.

They are really good at drawing in and entertaining the audience with their comfortable stage presence and positive attitude and give off a fresh enthusiastic vibe while at the same time being utterly professional.
